Adult acute myeloid leukemia

Adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the blood and bone marrow. AML is also called acute no lymphocytic leukemia or ANLL. The bone marrow is the spongy tissue inside the large bones in the body. The bone marrow makes red blood cells( which cary oxygen and other materials to all tissues of the body), white blood cells ( which fight infections) , and platelets (which make the blood clot) . Normally, the bone marrow makes cells called blasts that develop ( mature) into several different types of blood cells that have specific jobs to do in the body. AML affects the blasts that are developing into white blood cells called granulocytes. In AML, the blasts do not mature and become too numerous. These immature blasts cells are then found in the blood and the bone marrow. Leukemia can be acute( progressing quickly with many immature blasts.) or chronic( progressing slowly with more mature-looking cancer cells). Acute myeloid leukem...

Acute bronchitis

Acute bronchitis is an infection in the passages that carry air from the throat to the lungs. In such cases, these tubes become inflamed and collect mucus, making it difficult to breathe and causing a caught that produces phlegm. In 95 % of cases, acute bronchitis is caused by a virus and is spread from person to person through coughing. In some cases, other tiny microbes called mycoplasma or chlamydia may be responsible. The cough usually lasts for about a week to ten days but in about half of patients coughing can last for up to three weeks and 25% of patients continue to cough for over month.

Abdominal pain

Abdominal pain is a nonspecific symptom that may be associated with a multitude of conditions. Some do not occur within the abdomen itself but cause abdominal discomfort; an example would be the abdominal pain associated with strep throat. Some originate within the abdomen but are not related to the gastrointestinal tract such as a dissecting aortic aneurysm. Other pain is related directly to the gastrointestinal tract. The severity of the pain does not always reflect the severity of the condition causing the pain. Severe abdominal pain can be associated with mild conditions such as gas or the cramping of viral gastroenteritis, while relatively mild pain may be present with severe and life-threatening conditions such as cancer of the colon or early appendicitis. Toxins, infections, biliary tract disease, liver disease, renal disease, bladder infections, menstruation, ovulation, ulcers, perforation, pancreatic disease, hernias, trauma, and metabolic diseases can cause abdominal pai...
